In addition to the numerous rigging jobs SCM, Inc. has performed for Timken over the years, we were chosen as the prime contractor for a HVAC upgrade in Timken’s Sylvania, Georgia facility. The work consisted of the replacement of all the existing chillers and cooling towers and the replacement of the coils in four of their primary air handling units. A total of four chillers, four cooling towers, eight pumps, and 24 coils were replaced.
We installed four new Carrier 500-ton chillers, four new Marley Cooling Towers, four 930 GPM chilled water pumps, four 1,500 GPM condenser water pumps, and 24 Trane coils for the air handlers. In order to accommodate the increased volume, all the existing piping had to be up-sized.
We kept at least two chillers on-line at all times during the modifications, maintained the necessary cooling capacity both for comfort and production humidity control, and enabled the plant to continue to operate with no downtime of their systems.
We completed this work in approximately five months with an average crew size of six men.
